La Zagaleta is Europe’s most luxurious residential area in the heart of one of the most beautiful regions of the Costa del Sol. With more than 900 acres of private land surrounded by lush vegetation, pine trees, natural lakes and golf courses, it is a home to more than 230 luxury villas and mansions with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea, Gibraltar and the North African coast.
Apart from the phenomenal views over the sea, to the north there is a dramatic backdrop of the Sierra de las Nieves mountains. Despite its authentic natural location, La Zagaleta is situated in a very close proximity to the glamorous Puerto Banús and the vibrant life of Marbella, which makes it a top location on the Costa del Sol.
This renowned area was once owned by famous arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi and for some time was used as his private hunting grounds. He also kept several exclusive Arabian stallions and 200 african animals there. The parties at his former villa, now the golf country clubhouse, were legendary.
In the late 1980’s the land was bought by Enrique Perez Flores whose original idea was to build 3000 apartments there. But instead he focused on creating a haven for the world’s wealthiest people, who were attracted by the undoubtful privacy and unforgettable views. The only way in and out is through the two heavily guarded gates with 24 hours surveillance and security.
There is no need for a resident to leave the area. There is an in-house concierge and lifestyle management service to meet all needs. There are golf courses, tennis courts, equestrian center with 23 stables, a clubhouse (Khashoggi’s former hunting lodge) and even a civil aviation heliport.
Currently there are nearly 250 occupied plots and 170 are still vacant. A size of a plot there is at least 10000m2 and the villas are in line with the aesthetics of the surrounding nature.
One alleged occupant of this exclusive area is Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is believed to own a palatial villa there. But there are also rumors of Hugh Grant, Rod Stewart and Cristiano Ronaldo being owners of some properties.
